The Cannon Turret is the first defense turret a player unlocks. It is unique in that its bullets travel instantaneously - they are ray-traced by the game engine - and can work very well for shooting down Drones. They will fire upon hostile fauna (Plant Monsters, Arachnids, Otyughs and Overseers) and any kind of enemy Drone. The turret AI will focus on a single target until that target is down, as does all turret AI. As such, they are very effective in fending off Drone Attacks as long as they are not distracted by a hostile fauna. Cannon Turret can used for the Capital Vessels in planet as Capital vessel weapons and turrets won't fire inside atmosphere.
