The Blaster is the upgraded version of the Laser Pistol, and uses Laser Pistol Cell as ammunition. It is one of the highest tier of weapons and is not subjected to atmospheric forces (i.e. gravity). It was introduced in v1.9 to replace the Laser Pistol (T2).
Pistols serve as decent backup weapons in case you need to reload your primary weapon, as you can swap it faster than if you reloaded.
